Italian municipalities collect 284 million euros in speeding fines

Italian municipalities reported over 284 million euros in revenue from speeding fines in 2025, according to an analysis by Facile.it based on municipal financial statements. Speeding violations, governed by Article 142 of the Highway Code, account for more than one-third of all traffic law sanctions.

The top five cities—Florence, Bologna, Milan, Padua, and Genoa—collectively generated more than 46 million euros through fixed and mobile speed cameras, tutors, and other detection devices. Florence led the rankings with 19.7 million euros, followed by Bologna with 9.2 million, Milan with approximately 6.95 million, Padua with 5.7 million, and Genoa with over 4.88 million.

Other notable cities in the top ten include Palermo, Ravenna, Modena, Treviso, and Venice. Rome ranked twelfth among provincial capitals, reporting approximately 2.31 million euros in revenue.
