Italian municipalities confront repeated vandalism of community spaces

In the town of Isola del Giglio, vandals damaged a recently restored public garden and playground area within 48 hours of municipal repairs. Protective nets were cut and sections of asphalt were ripped up and scattered onto a nearby road, creating a safety hazard for motorists and pedestrians. Mayor Giancarlo Di Marco condemned the act as "unacceptable" and appealed to families and youth to respect public property, while police have been notified to investigate.

In Cantello, the outdoor defibrillator at the senior centre "Le Crugnole" was found completely destroyed overnight. The device, donated by association president Ambrogio Filippi in memory of his son, had previously been vandalised in October. Filippi announced he will file a formal complaint and authorities will review surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators. Both incidents have prompted local calls for greater respect for communal assets.
