Italian municipalities expand electronic identity card services

Italian municipalities are implementing measures to address backlogs and long waiting lists for electronic identity cards (CIE).

In Rome, an extraordinary open day is scheduled for September 5 and 6 to reduce queues and provide information regarding documentation and payment methods. While intended to assist citizens with urgent needs, officials noted this is a temporary measure to manage congestion in municipal offices.

In the Viterbo region, decentralized registry offices in Bagnaia, Grotte Santo Stefano, and San Martino al Cimino will be open from September 7 to 11. These locations will accept citizens without prior appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. In Viterbo itself, offices on via Cavour and via Garbini will remain active, with via Cavour operating exclusively by appointment.
