Italian municipalities expand recycling programs and honor top recyclers

Rome’s waste‑management agency AMA organized the “Giornate del Riciclo” on July 11‑12, setting up 17 temporary collection points across 11 districts. Residents could drop off bulky items, electronic waste, textiles and other materials free of charge, with the collected waste sorted for recycling into wood, metal, plastic and other streams.

In a separate development, the city of Fermo was recognized at the Ecoforum Legambiente in Rome as one of Italy’s most recycling‑active municipalities. The award highlighted Fermo’s Corepla‑run RecoPet system, which installed its first ecocompactors in 2025 and had collected roughly 1,400 kg of PET bottles by April 2026. The program rewards citizens with points that can be exchanged for coupons and discounts, encouraging further plastic‑bottle recycling.
