Italy expands childcare services through new nursery school openings
Various municipalities across Italy are inaugurating new nursery schools and childcare facilities, largely supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and European Union funds. These projects aim to expand childcare availability, reduce waiting lists, and support work-life balance for families.
In Francavilla Fontana, a new facility on via Bilotta was opened following the renovation of an abandoned building, costing over 1.3 million euros. Similarly, Santa Lucia di Piave has opened the ‘Piccole Impronte’ nursery, which is already at full capacity. In Santa Maria del Cedro, a new municipal nursery will offer free services during its first experimental year.
Other regional developments include the opening of the ‘Dai Pupins’ nursery in Forni di Sopra and the ‘Regina Margherita’ school in Jalmicco. In Rimini, local authorities reported reaching a milestone where municipal nursery places cover 45% of children under three, exceeding European targets. In San Quirico d'Orcia, the ‘La Chiocciola’ nursery was established through a 480,000 euro investment funded by NextGenerationEU.
