Italian municipalities launch accessible entry ramps and visual signage initiatives

The Bolzano city council, prompted by Disability Pride events, has moved to discuss a motion called “Easy Entry – Accessibilità per tutti”. Drafted by councilor Denis Iardino, the proposal seeks to install removable, certified ramps at shop entrances throughout the historic centre, supported by a census of barrier‑laden premises, free or co‑funded provision of ramps, and collaboration with local accessibility groups and craftsmen. The aim is to improve access not only for people with disabilities but also for the elderly, families with strollers and anyone with temporary mobility challenges.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Montechiarugolo has approved a project to embed Augmentative and Alternative Communication (CAA‑ARASAAC) symbols into its street‑signage. New vertical road signs and refreshed existing ones will feature pictograms that aid people who have difficulty reading or communicating verbally. The initiative is part of the broader “Vendo Differenza” programme, developed with Parma AUT APS and Azienda Pedemontana Sociale, and is intended to promote a culture of inclusion and greater autonomy for all citizens.

Both towns aim to remove physical and communicative barriers, encouraging a more inclusive urban environment.
