Italian municipalities launch inclusive beach facilities in Calabria and Naples

The municipality of Simeri Crichi in Calabria inaugurated the "Tutti al Mare" municipal beach on 13 July 2026. The new site includes accessible walkways, a wheelchair‑friendly changing room, a "Job" seat for water entry, lighting, video‑surveillance and free entry for all users. Management of the beach will be entrusted to third‑sector organisations that will also run social and rehabilitation activities.

In Naples, the city council completed works on the public beach at largo Sermoneta. A 20‑metre metal ramp with a gradient below 8 % now links the promenade to the sand, removing the previous steps. The renovation also restored stone walls, installed chemical toilets, showers, sand‑leveling walkways, recycling stations and eco‑islands, and provided free umbrellas, deck‑chairs and Job seats for people with reduced mobility. Both projects aim to remove architectural barriers and promote universal access to seaside recreation for residents and visitors.
