Italian municipalities tackle illegal boat moorings and beach vandalism

The municipality of Lacco Ameno on the island of Ischia has published a public notice to contract a private operator to recover, transport and store boats that are moored by debtors or occupied without a concession. The decree, signed by Oscar Rumolo, head of the General Affairs Service, states that the town lacks the facilities, equipment and specialised staff to manage the removals and that the costs will be borne by the boat owners, not the municipality.

In the Ferrarese coastal area, owners of beach establishments have agreed to collectively fund private security guards to protect their premises from nightly vandalism attributed to "maranza" groups. After a series of attacks on the Holiday 60 beach club, operators such as Italo Esposito and others, supported by CNA Balneari president Nicola Ghedini, will pay about €136 per night per establishment, amounting to nearly €6,000 for the season, to ensure continuous guard patrols.
