Italian Navy Regatta Highlights Inclusion as Disabled Defence Athletes Compete in Naples
The sixth stage of the Nastro Rosa Tour, a sailing race organized by the Italian Navy, took place in Naples on July 4. The event, which runs from Venice to Genoa across eight stages, featured teams from the Navy, Air Force and Finance Guard. In a special segment called “Oltre l’Onda,” athletes from the Defence Paralympic Sports Group swam, sailed and paddled in the Gulf of Naples, showcasing the forces’ focus on sport, maritime heritage and social inclusion.
Sub‑Secretary for Defence Isabella Rauti emphasized that the regatta promotes the message that “the sea belongs to everyone” and that sport should be accessible to all, reinforcing community values and teamwork among both able‑bodied and disabled participants.
The race is part of a broader effort to raise public awareness of naval heritage and to involve the local community ahead of the upcoming America’s Cup events in the city.
