Italian officials discuss ex Ilva reconversion and industrial competitiveness

During a debate in Ceglie Messapica, Italian Labor Minister Marina Calderone emphasized that the industrial reconversion of the former Ilva steel plant must prioritize the protection of workers and employment. Calderone noted that the site involves more than 12,000 direct employees and a significant secondary industrial network. She stressed the importance of fostering new entrepreneurial initiatives alongside the steel hub, particularly those linked to ecological and digital transitions.

The discussion also addressed broader challenges facing Italian industry, including high energy costs and fiscal policy.
