Italian olive oil prices decline amid rising production

Italian extra virgin olive oil prices are declining ahead of the 2026/2027 production campaign. According to Ismea data, national production is expected to reach 325,000 tons, a 31% increase over the previous year. This surge in supply has contributed to a significant drop in average origin prices, which fell to approximately 4.82 euros per kg, nearly half of the 9.47 euros per kg recorded during the same period in 2025.

Despite this decrease, Italian prices remain higher than those of international competitors such as Spain, Greece, and Tunisia. Regional variations within Italy are substantial. In Sicily, prices range from 6.70 euros per kg in Palermo and Trapani to 9.50 euros per kg in Ragusa. In southern production hubs like Brindisi and Bari, prices are lower, sitting between 4.20 and 4.55 euros per kg. Conversely, central regions and areas with DOP certifications often see prices exceeding 9 to 11 euros per kg.

For the end consumer, Italian extra virgin olive oil is priced between 9.90 and 15 euros per kg, whereas EU-wide olive oil typically ranges from 4.50 to 9.00 euros per kg.
