Italian partner arrested after double murder of mother and son in Aegio, Greece

Police in Aegio, Greece, arrested a 65‑year‑old Italian man suspected of killing his 54‑year‑old partner and her 26‑year‑old son in a double homicide discovered on 9 June. The victims were found dead in the family home in the Loggo district, the mother with stab wounds and the son shot with an illegally held shotgun while sleeping.

Investigators say the killings likely occurred between 02:00 and 03:00 hour, based on forensic timing, with the bodies discovered between 10:00 and 11:00 hour. The suspect, who had lived with the mother for about 15 years and was considered a parental figure by the son, called a friend for help after the murders and the friend alerted police. A knife and the shotgun were seized hidden in a flowerpot on the property.

The suspect has denied involvement and has advanced a claim that the mother and son killed each other, a scenario dismissed by police due to lack of struggle marks on the son and forensic evidence linking the suspect to the scene.
