Italian police and carabinieri launch joint anti‑abandonment campaign with community events

The animal‑welfare office of Rome partnered with the State Police and the 4th Carabinieri Regiment to produce a video promoting a bipartisan campaign against animal abandonment and mistreatment. The video, featuring Briciola – the veteran mascot dog of the regiment – and Rex, a rescued canine adopted by the police, was recorded at the municipal shelter in Rome and will be released on the institutions' web and social channels. Patrizia Prestipino, the city’s animal‑protection guarantor, said, “Uniamo le forze… dell’ordine, contro l’abbandono e i maltrattamenti”. The initiative also highlighted the involvement of the Rome police chief Roberto Massucci and Carabinieri commander Salvatore Luongo.

In Pesaro, the 26th edition of the “Cane di razza è bello… meticcio è meglio” show celebrated mixed‑breed dogs and reinforced the anti‑abandonment message. Organized by the nonprofit Animal House Odv, the event featured a jury of local officials, police, and animal‑rights advocates, and included a book presentation and numerous awards for participating dogs and owners. Municipal assessor Maria Rosa Conti and radio host Marina Marchetti helped promote the cause, emphasizing that every dog, regardless of breed, deserves a loving home.
