Italian police expand e‑bike patrols and seize non‑compliant models in Sardinia and Abruzzo

The Carabinieri unit in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, has introduced a fleet of electric bicycles for summer patrols. The e‑bikes allow officers to navigate narrow pedestrian areas, reduce noise and emissions, and increase direct interaction with tourists and locals during the peak tourist season.

In Pescara, Abruzzo, the local police intensified checks on electric bicycles, confiscating 35 units – many Fat Bikes – after finding that their initial propulsion speed exceeded the legal limit of 6 km/h. Some seized bikes could accelerate to over 50 km/h. The seized bikes are being examined by the Motor Vehicle Authority, and owners face administrative penalties if the vehicles remain non‑compliant.
