Italian police fine gambling centre and Naples bakery for labor and health violations

Carabinieri from the Catania stations, in cooperation with the Labour Inspection Unit, inspected a gambling centre in Aci Catena and a pastry shop in Acireale. The 45‑year‑old owner of the gambling centre was charged with omitted health surveillance and failure to keep the Risk Assessment Document, resulting in fines of €1,423.84 and €3,132 respectively. The 58‑year‑old owner of the pastry shop was charged with failing to report the use of an underground laboratory, incurring a fine of €1,708.61.

In the Naples district of Chiaiano, Carabinieri together with ASL Napoli staff inspected the corneteria “Cip & Ciop”. Inspectors uncovered two workers employed without contracts, serious breaches in food storage, and seized 450 kg of food deemed unfit for consumption. The proprietor received an immediate criminal complaint, a temporary seizure of the business, and combined fines of roughly €65,000 (approximately €36,000 for illegal employment, €24,000 administrative penalties, and €5,000 for food‑safety violations).
