Italian police crackdown on organized crime and drugs

Entities: Guardia di Finanza (Italy) · Polizia di Stato · Colombian National Police · Carabinieri (Italy) · Cocaine

Overview

Since late May 2026 Italy’s anti‑mafia and anti‑drug operations have broadened, targeting illegal gambling venues, under‑age alcohol sales and labour‑exploitation sites across the country. Police shut down unlicensed betting hubs, seized illegal gaming machines, and arrested members of the Cappello‑Bonaccorsi clan for armed drug trafficking. In August, a wave of large‑scale drug busts was added to the campaign. In the Turin area the Carabinieri seized roughly 700 kg of marijuana and 3.3 t of cocaine. Simultaneous raids by the Guardia di Finanza and local police in Catania, Riccione, Civitanova, Agliana, Tortoreto and other towns confiscated dozens of kilograms of cocaine and led to several arrests. These Italian actions were part of a coordinated international effort that also struck shipments in Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Venezuela, delivering a significant blow to trans‑national narcotics networks.
