Italian Police Hold Mental‑Health Conference and Youth Outreach Event in Sicily
On 14 July, the State Police’s Mobile Unit in Catania hosted a conference titled “Behind the badge there is a person” to address psychological distress and work‑related stress among officers. Organized by the provincial Fsp secretariat, the event featured senior police medical officers and highlighted the prevalence of suicides in uniformed services, citing 44 cases projected for 2025. Participants discussed the need for early intervention, peer support and institutional measures to mitigate toxic workplace conditions.
A few days earlier, on 11 July, police officers from the Adrano precinct visited the Oratorio “Don Pino Puglisi” in Biancavilla, engaging nearly 800 children and adolescents in a “Space of Legality” program. The police demonstrated investigative techniques, road‑safety simulations and showcased canine and mounted units, aiming to promote legal awareness, solidarity and respect for the law among the local youth.
Both events reflect the Police of State’s efforts to improve officer wellbeing and strengthen community relations in the Catania region.
