Italian police intensify e‑bike enforcement and patrols
In Reggio Calabria, local police seized four electric bicycles that had been modified into mopeds, deeming the alterations illegal under vehicle certification rules. The vehicles were confiscated and the owners fined a total of more than €28,000 for the unauthorized changes.
Meanwhile, the municipal police in Legnano launched a new “bicimontato” unit, deploying four e‑bikes equipped with sirens and flashing lights to patrol parks, pedestrian areas and low‑traffic zones. The unit aims to curb reckless use of micro‑mobility devices and enforce traffic regulations in areas where conventional patrol cars have limited access.
