Italian Police Launch Campaign to Combat Summer Pet Abandonment

The Polizia di Stato has introduced the #SeNonTiPortoNonParto campaign, releasing a new video spot that follows a police officer as she packs for vacation with her dog Joy. The message stresses that abandoning a pet is both ethically wrong and a criminal offense under the Italian Penal Code, with heavy fines and possible imprisonment.

The initiative targets the seasonal rise in animal abandonment during summer, urging owners to either travel with their pets or use accredited animal shelters, pet‑sitting services, or boarding facilities available across Italy. It also highlights public‑safety concerns, noting that stray animals can cause road accidents and endanger pedestrians. The campaign is being disseminated through social media, WhatsApp and the police’s official channels to reach a broad audience.
