Italian police raid luxury fashion houses over labor abuse allegations

Italian police in Milan raided the headquarters of 11 luxury fashion brands, including Chanel, Moncler, Bulgari, Etro, Brunello Cucinelli, Goyard Italy, Jacob Cohen Company, Owenscorp Italia, F. Vl and Stefano Ricci, as part of a broader probe into alleged exploitation of workers in subcontractor workshops. Prosecutor Paolo Storaria said the raids target subcontractors suspected of employing Chinese workers under conditions that violate labor law, such as low wages and unsafe housing.

The operation builds on investigations that began in 2025, which previously examined Prada, Givenchy and Dolce & Gabbana and led to temporary judicial oversight of Loro Piana. Industry minister Adolfo Urso has defended the sector, emphasizing the importance of the "Made in Italy" label, while authorities focus on whether luxury houses sufficiently monitor their supply chains.
