Italian police seize illegal gambling devices, begin coastal labour‑exploitation checks

Police from the State Police’s Administrative Division and the Customs and Monopolies Agency coordinated a raid on a private club in Catania’s Vulcania area. Inspectors found 14 fully functional gambling machines that were not authorised under Italian law and seized them. The club owner was subsequently fined €700,000 for operating the illegal devices.

The Prefecture of Lecce has ordered a series of inspections along the Salento coast over the coming weeks. The operation, led by the Prefect and involving the Guardia di Finanza, local police forces and the Territorial Labour Inspection, will target counterfeit merchandise, unauthorised commercial activities and the exploitation of minors in the tourism sector. A guide on the applicable regulations has been distributed to businesses, and results will be presented at a press conference after the first inspections.
