Italian prison officers assaulted in Cuneo and Livorno
Prison officers in Italy have reported a series of violent attacks while performing their duties. In Cuneo, three prison police officers were injured on Friday, September 18, while attempting to contain a violent fight between two inmates. The incident required the immediate reinforcement of security measures, involving off-duty personnel to restore order. The injured officers received medical treatment for injuries with recovery periods estimated between three and nine days.
In Livorno, another officer was recently assaulted at the local correctional facility. Labor representatives have described the increasing frequency of such incidents as a ‘war bulletin,’ expressing concerns over insufficient staffing levels and a sense of abandonment among personnel. Unions are calling for improved safety conditions and more staff to manage complex situations within the prison system.
