Italian public health gatherings draw crowds in Fermo and Cagliari

In Piazza San Martino, Fermo, a packed rally organized by the Arci Spazio 25 April circle and CGIL Fermo called for a popular legislative initiative to reinforce the National Health Service. Speakers highlighted chronic under‑funding, staff shortages, growing waiting lists and the increasing turn to private care, warning that these trends threaten the principle of universal health coverage. "La salute è il bene più prezioso e prendersene cura significa difendere uno dei pilastri fondamentali della nostra democrazia," said CGIL local president Renzo Offidani.

The following day, Piazza del Carmine in Cagliari hosted the second edition of “Agorai – Spazi per generare salute mentale,” a project of the regional Department of Mental Health and the municipal Social Policies office. The forum brought together patients, families, health workers, administrators and NGOs to discuss mental health as a common good and to co‑design local actions. Manuela Ciosci, project coordinator, explained that the Agorai aim to give a voice to the often unheard and to raise public awareness through dialogue and artistic performances.

Both events reflect growing citizen activism around health policy and the demand for more inclusive, adequately funded public services in Italy.
