Italian rail network faces widespread cancellations and strikes in early July 2026

From 5 July to 10 July and again from 26 July to 30 July 2026, scheduled maintenance work at the Florence railway node will cause extensive service changes across Italy. High‑speed routes operated by Trenitalia and Italo linking Turin, Milan, Venice, Rome, Naples, Salerno, Reggio Calabria and other cities will see cancellations, reduced routes, altered timetables and travel times lengthened by up to three hours. Bus shuttles will operate between Florence Campo di Marte and Santa Maria Novella, and several regional, Intercity and night services will also be affected. International connections such as the EuroCity Florence‑Zurich and the EuroNight Rome‑Munich will run only between Bologna and their respective termini.

On 6 July 2026 a coordinated transport strike will hit Italy. Five separate actions will strike local public‑transport operators in Catania and Prato, while a nationwide 24‑hour rail strike declared by the USB Lavoro Privato union will suspend railway operations from 21:00 on 6 July to 21:00 on 7 July. The combined effect of maintenance work and the strike will further reduce train availability and delay journeys across the country.
