Italian Red Cross runs youth field schools on civil protection in Modena and Ancarano

From June 29 to July 4, the Italian Red Cross’s national programme “Anch’io sono la Protezione Civile” organized two youth field schools. In Ancarano, Abruzzo, the Croce Bianca Val Vibrata hosted teenagers aged 14‑16 for a week of practical training, exercises and education on risk prevention and emergency response.

In Modena, a delegation of about 40 young participants aged 11‑13 visited the municipal council and began a similar week‑long camp at the Galileo Ferraris middle school. The Modena camp is part of the programme’s 16th edition, which this year involves more than 9,000 students across Italy through over 350 sites. Activities include first‑aid training, road‑safety lessons, visits to the regional emergency centre, and meetings with fire, police and Carabinieri forest units.

Both initiatives aim to raise civic awareness, promote active citizenship and strengthen collaborations between local authorities and civil‑protection organisations.
