Italian emergency service drills & training
Entities: Croce Rossa Italiana – Comitato di Piacenza · Protezione Civile · Andrea Distefano · Comune di Ragusa · Associazione Unbeatables
Overview
From April through August 2026 Italy expanded health‑related training, volunteer mobilisation and emergency‑equipment deployment. The Avellino Order of Physicians highlighted doctor‑retention while ASL Avellino ran a two‑day intra‑hospital emergency course in Ariano Irpino. Croce Azzurra ODV launched a 32‑hour social‑support and medical‑transport programme in Como, and the Rotary‑backed Medicina Amica event in Asti and the Cardio Atri conference in Atri brought first‑aid and cardiology education to thousands of students and professionals.
Red Cross festivals in Acqui Terme and Finale Emilia, youth field schools in Ancarano and Modena, and the Service Civile placements in Florence continued to recruit and train volunteers. New ambulances were inaugurated in Ronciglione, Sutri, Giglio, Rignano sull’Arno, Calolzio and other towns, while the fire‑service high‑training school in Reggio Calabria received €25 million approval.
Defibrillator networks grew rapidly: Ariccia, Prato, Campobasso, Treviso, Capannoli, Frank Malone Pub, Cervo, Viterbo, Siderno, Francolino, Brindisi, Canepina, Umbertide, Ventasso, Gravina, Medicina and many Umbria municipalities (Orvieto, Soriano nel Cimino, etc.) added AEDs, often paired with citizen‑training sessions and smartphone‑location apps. The Emilia‑Romagna coast received a new 6‑m rescue boat (Tenace) and volunteer rescue groups celebrated anniversaries and expanded fleets.
Regional authorities doubled police transport subsidies in Calabria and revised Campania’s professional‑training decree to prevent course freezes. Civil Protection coordinated multi‑scenario drills in Como, Lecco and Sondrio and ran week‑long youth camps in Fiumicino, Maschito, Grotte Santo Stefano, Cesena, Sirmione and other sites, reinforcing a culture of prevention. The Italian Red Cross signed a volunteer‑partnership protocol with CSVnet and, together with local committees, provided medical coverage for major summer concerts in Ancona. Partnerships with firms such as EcoAmbiente and Cogeme Energia delivered heat‑risk ambulances and energy‑rate discounts for volunteers.
Overall, the period saw a coordinated push to strengthen Italy’s emergency response capacity through training, equipment deployment, volunteer engagement and infrastructure investment.
