Italian regions activate PNRR‑funded community health centers

The Friuli Venezia Giulia region reported that all 23 community health centers planned under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) are now operating. The rollout, presented at Udine's Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital, involved an investment of €40.2 million, with €16.4 million from PNRR funds and the remainder co‑financed by the regional budget. The hub‑and‑spoke network covers Udine, Tarvisio, Tolmezzo, Gemona del Friuli, Tarcento, San Daniele del Friuli, Cividale del Friuli, Codroipo, Palmanova, Cervignano del Friuli and Latisana, with the Latisana hub set to open in early 2027. In its first six months (Dec 2025‑May 2026) the centres recorded more than 4,000 daily primary‑care visits in Udine and Cividale and 11,199 night‑time contacts in Udine, supported by a mix of permanent, temporary and freelance doctors and targeted recruitment of retired practitioners.

In the Veneto region's Ulss 4 area, six community health centers in Portogruaro, San Michele al Tagliamento, San Donà di Piave, Caorle, Jesolo and Cavallino‑Treporti have also become fully operational, funded by over €17 million from PNRR, regional health funds, and other sources. All services mandated by DM 77/22 are active, including a single‑point access, 24/7 medical presence, specialist outpatient clinics and integrated home‑care. Director Carlo Bramezza described the development as “a real revolution of territorial care,” while Eddi Frezza highlighted that the centres are designed “to evolve with the population’s needs.” Regional health assessor Riccardo Riccardi noted that more than half of the resources came from the regional budget, underscoring strong local political commitment.
