Italian regions expand PNRR health services

Overview

In Veneto, a new Casa della Comunità in Cavallino-Treporti began centralizing primary care and specialist services as a “single point of reference.” Friuli Venezia Giulia launched a regional e-health portal for online appointment management and test results. In Tricase, the SOS PEOPLE project upgraded hematology services to enable advanced CAR-T therapies.

By late August, efforts to optimize scheduling and territorial care expanded. In L'Aquila, Asl 1 Abruzzo introduced an SMS reminder service to reduce missed appointments. In Benevento, the local Asl partnered with Federconsumatori to help citizens cancel specialist visits.

In late August, Liguria reported that its ‘Case della Comunità’ saw over 65,000 accesses between January and July 2026, helping to alleviate emergency room pressure. To address physician shortages, new general practitioner clinics are scheduled to open in Bari’s Sant'Anna district and Tuscany’s Quarrata-Serravalle area on September 1. In Bologna, the Ausl confirmed the via Beroaldo clinic will remain operational pending the impact of a new unified continuity of care telephone system.
