Italian regions Emilia‑Romagna and Piemonte tighten African Swine Fever controls

In Emilia‑Romagna, regional councilors from Fratelli d’Italia (Giancarlo Tagliaferri, Priamo Bocchi and Marta Evangelisti) presented an interrogation to the regional government seeking detailed data on the fight against African Swine Fever (ASF). They praised the work of the national extraordinary commissioner Giovanni Filippini and the government’s funding, but asked for transparent, verifiable results, especially regarding wild‑boar depopulation, carcass disposal, and coordination with the regional coordination centre. They also called for possible incentives similar to those used in Lombardy and Piedmont to reward voluntary containment efforts.

In Piemonte, President Alberto Cirio signed an immediate ordinance extending existing surveillance, prevention and eradication measures for another sixty days. The decree maintains continuous control of wild boar populations, protects pig farms and safeguards the regional pork supply chain. Regional assessors Paolo Bongioanni and Federico Riboldi emphasized that uninterrupted culling of boars near high‑risk districts, such as Cuneo, is essential to prevent the spread of ASF and to preserve the local agri‑food economy.
