Italian regions implement new agricultural and health regulations

The Calabria Region has announced new funding to strengthen biosafety in pig farms to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF). Through a new notice, the region will provide grants covering 70% of costs for preventive and risk-mitigation interventions. Eligible expenses include the installation of fences to block wild animals, disinfection systems, and facilities for changing and washing clothes. Individual farmers and cooperatives can apply for contributions ranging from 10,000 euros up to 150,000 euros for large-scale farms with over 501 animals. Applications must be submitted by October 10, 2026.

In Lombardy, new regional legislation (Regional Law 17/2026) has introduced stricter requirements for indoor air quality through the regulation of air handling systems. The law mandates periodic technical inspections to verify the hygienic conditions of internal surfaces in air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems. Owners are now required to conduct hygienic-sanitary risk assessments and ensure the traceability of maintenance to protect collective health in indoor environments.
