Italian regions launch new coastal protection agreements in Campania and Abruzzo

The Campania region, the Regional Nature Reserves Authority, and the municipality of Castel Volturno signed a four‑year agreement to restore the historic coastal pine forest. The plan calls for planting about 8,000 native trees, including truffle‑associated species, starting in 2026, and recognises Castel Volturno’s white truffle as a traditional agri‑food product.

In Abruzzo, a regional law enacted on 3 July 2026 reinstated the original protection measures for the Borsacchio natural reserve along the Adriatic coast. The temporary restoration of safeguards will remain in force until the reserve’s boundaries are definitively re‑defined, ensuring continuous ecological protection during the perimeter‑redrawing process.
