Italian regions pledge over €300 million for mountain development and road upgrades

The Piedmont regional government announced a programme that will allocate nearly €300 million in regional, national and EU resources to support sustainable development in high‑altitude areas. The plan includes €9.3 million for mountain unions in 2026, an additional €2 million for 2027, and over €108 million directly to mountain unions, with further funds for forest management, biodiversity protection and school mountain services.

In Abruzzo, the Union of Communes of Montagna Marsicana backed a joint declaration by the mayors of the Fucino plain, urging the regional and provincial authorities to create a permanent fund for road maintenance, complete the refurbishment of the main provincial road linking Avezzano to San Benedetto dei Marsi, and set up a multi‑year road‑planning strategy. The initiative stresses that improved road infrastructure is vital for the agricultural economy of the Fucino area.
