Lecco launches biodiversity pilot programme

Lecco biodiversity pilot invasive species wetlands monitoring ARPA Lombardia

Regional councilor Giacomo Zamperini and agriculture assessor Alessandro Beduschi organised a biodiversity round‑table in Lecco, promoting the city as a pilot territory for developing and testing biodiversity solutions. The meeting gathered institutions, associations, Carabinieri Forestali, provincial police, protected‑area managers and agricultural stakeholders to discuss issues such as the management of large carnivores, fish stocks, and invasive species including cormorants, catfish, the Asian lady beetle and the popillia japonica.

Separately, Lombardy approved a €64 000 biennial water‑quality monitoring programme for 2026‑2027 covering the Sebino marshes, Mincio valleys, Ostiglia marshes and the Pian di Spagna‑Lake Mezzola. The scheme, backed by ARPA Lombardia, will collect chemical, physical and biological data to improve water and habitat conservation in the region’s Ramsar wetlands.
