Italian regional agri‑food and environmental initiatives

Overview
In late July 2026 regional officials in Veneto and Lombardy met to launch coordinated actions for high‑quality agri‑food products. In Veneto, Agriculture chief Dario Bond and Health supervisor Gino Gerosa convened a working table at Venice’s Palazzo Balbi with major retailers and farmer groups to design a territorial brand, promote nutrition and draft a protocol for wider distribution and collective catering after the summer break.
In Lombardy, Agriculture assessor Alessandro Beduschi signed a protocol with Sogemi president Cesare Ferrero to showcase DOP and IGP items at the Milan Agro‑Food Market and fifteen city markets, focusing on dairy, beef and freshwater fish and on consumer education.
The agenda quickly expanded to biodiversity and water stewardship. In Lecco, regional councilor Giacomo Zamperini and assessor Beduschi organised a biodiversity round‑table that gathered institutions, police, protected‑area managers and agricultural stakeholders to pilot solutions for large carnivores, fish stocks and invasive species such as cormorants, catfish, the Asian lady‑beetle and popillia japonica.
Lombardy also approved a €64 000 biennial water‑quality monitoring programme (2026‑2027) for the Sebino marshes, Mincio valleys, Ostiglia marshes and the Pian di Spagna‑Lake Mezzola Ramsar wetlands, with ARPA Lombardia supporting chemical, physical and biological data collection. In Campobasso, veterinarians called for a new territorial approach to veterinary prevention and participatory management of the nearby national park, reinforcing the region‑wide focus on sustainable food systems and ecosystem protection.
