Tuscany approves first regional wildlife‑hunting plan
The Regional Council of Tuscany approved the region’s first wildlife‑hunting plan with a vote of 22 in favour and 17 against. The 1,700‑page document, which will be in force for five years, replaces the provisional regime and provincial competencies that dated from 2015.
President Eugenio Giani presented the plan as “the plan of equilibrium”, saying it seeks a balance between farmers, hunters and environmentalists. He highlighted the region’s 22,900 km² area, its 3.6 million inhabitants and the extensive forest cover that make clear‑cut rules essential.
Opposition parties – Alleanza Verde Sinistra, Forza Italia and Fratelli d’Italia – voted against the plan, arguing it favours hunting over biodiversity protection. Hunting associations expressed mixed reactions, with some criticizing the plan’s content while others welcomed the updated quotas and management measures. The plan is presented as a model for the rest of Italy.
