Italian rescue teams aid injured hikers on Etna and Gran Sasso

A 60‑year‑old hiker from Enna was injured on the western slope of Monte Nero on Etna. The GeoResQ app sent an automatic alert to the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS), which deployed a ground team from Linguaglossa and Guardia di Finanza rescuers. The hiker suffered a serious injury to his right lower leg, was immobilised, taken to Rifugio Ragabo and later transferred by ambulance to the hospital in Giarre.

On the same day two hikers on Gran Sasso were rescued by the same alpine rescue corps in Abruzzo. A 23‑year‑old slipped on an icy section of the Sella di Monte Aquila trail; he was air‑lifted by a helicopter to Campo Imperatore where medical personnel provided minor treatment. A 53‑year‑old who lost his way near Rocca di Botte was located via GeoResQ and guided back to his vehicle by a ground team. Both incidents highlight the effectiveness of the GeoResQ platform for rapid mountain‑rescue operations.
