Italian right-wing coalition faces electoral law disputes

Internal tensions are rising within Italy's right-wing coalition regarding the development of a new electoral law. The proposed system features a proportional voting method with a majority premium, granting 70 seats in the Chamber and 35 in the Senate to any coalition securing at least 42% of the vote.

Disagreements have emerged between allies, specifically regarding the replacement of single-member constituencies with multi-member ones and the reintroduction of preferences in the Senate. These changes have caused friction within Fratelli d'Italia and with the Lega party. Additionally, a proposed amendment by Senator Marcello Pera, which would introduce a runoff if no coalition reaches 48% in both houses, faces opposition due to concerns over its impact on specific political factions.

Separately, Senator Gianni Berrino of Fratelli d'Italia commented on the Cernobbio forum, claiming that business leaders and managers have rejected the center-left's 'Campo Largo' platform. Berrino defended the current government's stability and international credibility, contrasting it with the perceived lack of a unified vision among the opposition.
