Italian schools and Greek workplaces seek heat protection measures
The CGIL union in Reggio Emilia, Italy, has called on municipal authorities and national government to carry out a detailed mapping of temperature conditions in schools and nurseries, many of which lack adequate ventilation or air‑conditioning. The union warns that internal temperatures above safe thresholds pose health risks to children, educators and staff, and demands a multi‑year plan for climate‑adaptation upgrades, energy‑efficient renovations and increased green spaces.
In Greece, regional administrations in Veneto, Lazio, Liguria, Tuscany, Piedmont, Puglia and Emilia‑Romagna have adopted regulations that ban outdoor work during the hottest part of the day (typically 12:30 – 16:00) when a high heat‑risk level is forecast. Using the Worklimate platform, the rules target sectors such as agriculture, construction, mining and logistics, aiming to prevent heat‑related illnesses and treat any incidents as occupational injuries.
