Italian schools face vandalism during student occupations

Student protests across several Italian educational institutions have resulted in significant property damage and vandalism. In Naples, the Giordani-Striano school in Fuorigrotta underwent an inspection by the Carabinieri following a multi-day occupation. Authorities reported various damages within the facility and have launched investigations to identify those responsible. This wave of protests, inspired by movements in France, aims to denounce building conditions and services, while also addressing migrant reception centers.

In Rozzano, the Calvino Institute experienced a raid during an occupation that left bathrooms destroyed, windows broken, and technological equipment damaged. While local Mayor Mattia Ferretti condemned the acts as unacceptable offenses against the community, the student collective organizing the mobilization issued a statement distancing themselves from the vandalism. The collective claimed their intent was a peaceful occupation to give a voice to the periphery and stated that students have offered to help clean and reorganize the damaged premises.
