Italian student protests and school occupations

Student-led protests and occupations of educational institutions have spread across several Italian regions, including Naples and Rozzano. These demonstrations, inspired by movements in France, aim to protest building conditions, services, and migrant reception centers.

In Rozzano, the Calvino Institute suffered damage to bathrooms, windows, and technological equipment during an occupation. While local authorities condemned the vandalism, organizing student collectives stated their intent was peaceful and offered to assist in cleaning the premises. In Naples, the Giordani-Striano school underwent inspections by the Carabinieri following a multi-day occupation.

As the protests continued in the province of Naples, authorities reported more intense incidents. In Pomigliano d’Arco, the use of firecrackers and smoke bombs resulted in a 17-year-old student falling ill. Carabinieri identified three minors responsible for explosions and seized items including smoke bombs, a flare, and a balaclava. In Marigliano, a 15-year-old was intercepted by police while in possession of a glass-breaking hammer. Several minors are now facing legal action through the Naples Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.
