Italian Senate majority proposes measures to accelerate evictions
The Italian Senate majority is proposing amendments to a bill aimed at accelerating the eviction process and property release. The proposed measures seek to reduce the time required for the validation and execution of evictions by half or even one-third.
Key proposals include allowing private security firms to assist judicial officers to overcome staffing shortages in law enforcement. For tenants, the amendments suggest a minimum daily fine of 50 euros for refusing to vacate, a reduction of the grace period for settling arrears from 90 to 45 days, and a limit on the number of times arrears can be settled within a single lease.
To support property owners, the package includes a proposal to suspend IMU property tax during the eviction process for non-payment and the creation of a national registry of delinquent tenants.
