Italian seniors adopt digital apps to combat fraud and use postal services

In Italy, a new free app called MyNino has been launched by Biblioteche Senze Frontiere Italia with Google’s support to help older adults navigate smartphones, avoid online scams and misinformation, and build digital skills. The platform offers three sections—Coach for short lessons, Care with an AI‑driven chatbot that answers questions in plain language and flags financial fraud, and Connect for community forums and local digital‑safety events. After a pilot phase from 2024 to 2026, the service reached hundreds of seniors, families and caregivers in Lombardy, Lazio and Campania and is promoted as a corporate‑social‑responsibility tool for financial institutions.

At the same time, in the southern city of Carbonia more than 350 residents aged over 80 have downloaded Poste Italiane’s “App P”, contributing to a total of over 10,000 local users—about 42% of the city’s population. The app, part of a national user base exceeding 16 million, lets seniors book post‑office appointments, locate ATMs, monitor shipments, make payments, and conduct banking transactions without visiting a branch. Poste Italiane couples the rollout with free digital‑literacy resources aimed at narrowing the digital divide among older Italians.
