Italian shelters boost funding and adopt 41 rescued Chihuahuas

The intermunicipal shelter in Cesena received a contract worth €352,459 to operate from July 2026 to June 2028, while the Rio Eremo shelter completed a €275,000 renovation that added 49 new animal boxes and improved safety for staff and volunteers. In the past three months the Cesena shelter handled 33 stray dogs, returning 19 to owners, adopting nine, sterilising five, performing one surgery and recording one death.

In Trecastelli, the Animal Health Service of AST Ancona cleared 41 Chihuahua dogs, previously seized, for adoption after veterinary examinations confirmed they were disease‑free. The adoptions will be coordinated with local animal‑rights groups, the Carabinieri Forestali of Senigallia and the cooperative Hmuta, following scientific collaboration with the Istituto Zooprofilattico Abruzzo e Molise.

Both initiatives demonstrate increased municipal investment and cross‑institutional cooperation to address stray‑dog concerns in the Emilia‑Romagna region.
