Italian social inclusion hubs launch in Milan and Catania

Sky Italia and the Officina dell'Abitare will host an Open Day on 9 July at the Hub “Trasformazione in Opera” in Milan’s Opera prison. The event showcases a prison‑work programme that has employed 14 detainees under national collective contracts, offering companies the chance to develop socially integrated projects inside the correctional facility. Sky officials highlighted the model’s impact on reducing recidivism and providing skilled labour for businesses.

In Catania, the newly opened “Moda Operandi” centre occupies a building seized from the mafia and repurposed as a tailoring and empowerment hub for vulnerable women, especially migrants and victims of violence. Funded by EU community funds, the project aims to train up to 30 women annually, provide 120‑hour sewing courses, creative workshops, and support the creation of up to ten new enterprises, with childcare facilities for mothers. Local officials stressed the initiative’s role in turning a symbol of crime into a space of liberty and economic autonomy.
