Italian student groups launch new activism and legality initiatives

Student organizations in Italy are launching new initiatives focused on educational rights and civic legality. In the Alta Irpinia region, the Collettivo Studentesco Irpino (CSI) has established a new local nucleus to expand its presence beyond Avellino. The group aims to address issues such as overcrowded classrooms, building conditions, transport difficulties, and school-work training. As part of their mobilization, they have announced a student strike for October 16 under the slogan “Diserzione Totale”.

In Messina, the Flc-Cgil, the Union of University Students, and the Network of Secondary Students are organizing an event at the University of Messina on October 8. The meeting will feature a remote dialogue with prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, focusing on legality, active citizenship, and the role of education in combating organized crime. The initiative seeks to engage secondary and university students in discussions regarding the importance of study as a tool for social emancipation and democratic participation.
