Youth development and employment initiatives in Italy
Overview
Various Italian organizations and municipalities are implementing programs focused on youth development, employment, and civic engagement. In Sicily, the Associazione Giovani Idee has launched programmatic activities in Agrigento led by Luca Iacolino to foster active citizenship. In Messina, student groups organized an event at the University of Messina on October 8 featuring prosecutor Nicola Gratteri to discuss legality and combating organized crime. Student activism is also rising in Alta Irpinia, where the Collettivo Studentesco Irpino (CSI) announced a strike for October 16. Professional and educational orientation services continue to expand. In Milan, the Youth Orientation Network has grown to 23 access points. Data from the network shows that between December 2025 and September 2026, it received 784 requests for support, noting that 41% of the young adults seeking help, aged 14 to 35, are currently not in school, training, or employment. In Castelnovo Monti, the Province of Reggio Emilia launched a new Orientanet point to provide expert guidance to students in the Appennino region. Financial support and scholarship opportunities have also been announced. The Gran Sasso d’Italia Chamber of Commerce is offering non-repayable grants to support youth-led and female-led businesses in L’Aquila and Teramo. These grants cover up to 50 percent of eligible expenses, such as machinery and software, with a maximum of 3,500 euros per project. In the Abruzzo region, the University of Teramo has introduced 14 annual scholarships through the ‘Insieme Abruzzo’ project. Additionally, the Rome Chamber of Commerce has launched the 2026 ITS Academy call, providing 200 non-repayable scholarships of 1,000 euros each. The Veneto regional government has allocated 600,000 euros for its 2026 civil service program, allowing accredited entities to receive up to 30,000 euros per project.
