Italian suspect arrested for double homicide of mother and son in Aigio, Greece

On 8 June 2026, 54‑year‑old Maria and her 26‑year‑old son Olympios were found brutally murdered in their home in Aigio, Greece. Police say the perpetrator is a 65‑year‑old Italian man, the partner of the mother, who allegedly shot Maria and then stabbed both victims after a struggle.

Investigators say the motive appears to be a financial dispute over money the Italian suspect had contributed to the renovation of the house, which was legally registered to the son. The man was arrested at the local police station, presented before a magistrate and has repeatedly claimed innocence while acknowledging only that he is the suspect.

A funeral for the victims was held on 13 June 2026 at the Church of Saint Demetrius in Aigio, attended by relatives and village residents. The suspect was quoted as saying, “Πώς μπόρεσε; Να πει το έκανα, συγχωρήστε με” (“How could I have done it? I say I did it, forgive me”). Police continue to investigate the case, noting no third‑party involvement and collecting DNA evidence from the victims’ defensive wounds.
