Italian suspect in Greek double murder faces new toxicology findings

Greek prosecutors continue investigating the double killing of 54‑year‑old mother Maria Iatrópoulou and her 26‑year‑old son Olympios in Loggos, Aigialeia. The accused, 65‑year‑old Italian citizen Marco, has completed part of his toxicology tests, which revealed traces of Indian cannabis and sedative drugs in his system. His lawyer argues that forensic reports show no injuries on Marco, no DNA from him on either weapon, and that the crime scene was not cleaned as previously reported. The defence also cites Marco’s financial ties with the victims and the absence of any motive, while emphasizing that Marco claims he was asleep at the time of the murders. Authorities are still examining electronic devices found in the house and awaiting further forensic results to determine the exact circumstances of the killings.

The investigation remains open, with additional statements being taken and forensic analysis of a robotic vacuum and other evidence ongoing.
