Italian terminals expand: FS Logistix adds Orte hub, Marsala terminal reopens

From January 2027 the Intermodal Terminal of Orte will become part of the FS Logistix network, with management transferred to Terminali Italia, a subsidiary of the group. The addition raises the number of FS Logistix terminals in Europe to 23 and is intended to strengthen intermodal rail‑road freight links between northern and southern Italy and major European corridors. Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of FS Logistix, said the move will boost the group’s presence in central Italy and support a shift toward more sustainable, integrated logistics.

In Sicily, the previously idle Welcome Terminal at the port of Marsala has been put into service after a free‑use agreement with Liberty Lines, the sole operator of connections to the Egadi Islands. The terminal now opens daily from 6:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., offering a waiting hall, restrooms and an information point. Funded by a €450,000 POR Sicilia grant, the activation marks a reversal of years of under‑used infrastructure and aims to improve tourist and commuter services to the islands.
