Italian textile districts launch sustainable innovation projects
Italian textile districts are implementing new technological and sustainable initiatives to combat market challenges and international competition.
In Carpi, two innovative projects totaling 600,000 euros in regional and European funding were presented at the technological hub. One project, ‘WATER RETTING 4.0’, focuses on developing an industrial bioreactor to extract hemp fiber from processing waste. This fiber can be used for textiles or blended with wool and cotton. Additionally, the woody part of the hemp stem can be used to create hemp-lime bricks for the construction industry.
In Tuscany, the Tuscany Fashion Cluster has launched a new three-year program to foster innovation through a network of companies, universities, and research centers. Managed by Next Technology Tecnotessile and promoted by the Tuscany Region, the initiative aims to facilitate technology transfer and help the regional fashion manufacturing chain meet new European regulations and global competitive pressures.
